How Music Helps In Children Development

Music and Children Development

Music is a great part of our culture. Just like other aspects of culture, it plays a significant role in our development. We find music present in many aspects of our lives: theater, television, movies, worship, holidays, celebrations, and government and military ceremonies. It has been an important part of our lives for centuries. Children of all ages express themselves through music. Even young infants sway, bounce, or move their hands in response to music. Music has been used as a tool for the development of learning skills in children, strengthening their social and emotional skills as well as a means in aiding their vocabulary.  Below are some of the ways music helps in children development

IMPROVES BRAIN POWER:

Music helps in stimulating the part of the brain that is responsible for reading, math, and emotional development. Making music, especially through tapping or clapping and movement, can help enhance fine and gross motor skills! Simple songs combined with play can help boost brain and body coordination. All of these activities help build important connections in the brain during this essential time of development.

AIDS LEARNING:

Music makes it easier for children to learn things faster. Anything learned through music like singing most especially can hardly be forgotten. Using songs in teaching children improves learning and makes them smarter.

IMPROVES THEIR LEVEL OF CREATIVITY:

Songwriting, composition, playing musical instruments are great skills. They improve the level of creativity of children. Most great musicians and artists today started music from a very tender age. For example, people like Michael Jackson, Usher Raymond, Beyonce, and others who started from their childhood. This set of persons was exposed to music from their childhood. And growing up music has become something quite easy for them and is part of them.

IT BUILDS THEIR CONFIDENCE:

Children who learn a musical instrument tend to have a good level of self-confidence. Being able to achieve that improves their self-esteem and believe more in their ability to achieve greater goals. This makes them feel better about themselves.

DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR SOCIAL SKILL:

Social development is just as well as important as physical development. If a child fails to have good social development, they would feel lost, incomplete, and lack a sense of belonging. Music is an avenue to improve a child's social development by getting them involved in group singing, an orchestra where they could mingle with other children and their peers. This helps them develop social skills, such as how to relate with people, how to work in a team, leadership, and discipline, and how to appreciate rewards and achievement.

IT MAKES THEM HAPPY:

Music gets children excited and even starts dancing. There are instances of babies that stop crying after hearing a song play. Performing beloved music and dances are ways for children to discover the possibilities of laughing and joking, and to experience positive emotions like delight, joy, and affection

Furthermore, exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. Both for adults and for children, music helps strengthen memory skills.
